I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
The Pacific Northwest (PNW) is a dream destination for couples looking to elope! If you’re dreaming of a day filled with adventure, jaw-dropping views, and the perfect blend of coastlines, mountains, and forests, a PNW elopement is for you! Whether you’re planning something laid-back or maybe adding some more adventure to your day, there are so many places to go and things to do to make your day happen EXACTLY the way you want it to be.
In this guide, I’m breaking down the best spots to elope in the PNW, what to expect from the seasons, and tips to help you plan the perfect elopement day!
The PNW is known for its diverse landscapes that offer breathtaking backdrops for every type of elopement. From the volcanic mountains of Oregon (like Mt. Bachelor, Mt. Hood, and the iconic Crater Lake) to the rugged beauty of the Oregon Coast and the lush, misty forests of Washington’s national parks, you’ll find every kind of terrain imaginable.
You can also explore desert-like areas in Oregon, such as the Alvord Desert or Smith Rock. If you head to Washington – this state offers equally jaw-dropping options with dramatic mountain ranges like the North Cascades, Mt. Rainier, and the rainforests of Olympic National Park.
So whether you want a beach, mountain, forest, or desert elopement, the PNW has it all! And I’ll be diving into the PNW elopement locations further down!
The Pacific Northwest is known for its diverse landscapes and weather patterns, so the best time to elope really depends on the specific location and what kind of experience you’re after. From the Oregon Coast to the mountains, the seasons will look different in each spot! With any season, the weather can also still be unpredictable so expect the unexpected and always bring layers and rain jackets!
While here is a quick overview, I’ve included more detailed weather info with each location to help you plan your perfect elopement!
Spring is beautiful with wildflowers starting to bloom, mild temperatures, and the end of the rainy season. While you’ll still encounter rain, especially in coastal and forest areas, the mix of sunshine and showers can make for dreamy, moody photos. Mountain areas may still have snow, so be sure to check conditions if you’re planning a mountain elopement.
Summer is the peak elopement season in the PNW. The weather is warm and sunny, the wildflowers are in full bloom, and the clear skies offer stunning views of mountains, lakes, and coastlines. This is the best time for outdoor adventures! Hike, explore national parks, or say your vows on a beach! However, summer is also the busiest season for tourists, so consider a weekday elopement or quieter locations (I’ll help you find those) to avoid the crowds.
Fall in the PNW is a great time for elopements. The forests are filled with fall colors, and the crisp air creates a cozy vibe. Coastal areas and the mountains are particularly stunning this time of year. Just keep in mind that weather can be a bit unpredictable, with rain and colder temperatures creeping in, especially toward November. You’ll also start to get fewer crowds, which is always a bonus!
Winter elopements in the PNW can be absolutely breathtaking, especially if you’re drawn to snow-covered mountains or the moody atmosphere of the coast. You can exchange vows at a ski resort or find a cozy spot in the forest. But keep in mind that many high-elevation mountain areas experience closures due to snow!
If you’re worried about planning for the weather, I’ve got just the guide for you here!
As I mentioned before, when it comes to eloping in the PNW, you have SO many options. Whether you’re drawn to misty beaches, rugged cliffs, or snow-capped mountains, there’s a spot for you. Here are my top picks in no particular order:
The Oregon Coast is best known for its cinematic beauty, stretching over 360 miles of rugged shoreline with towering basalt rock formations, grassy meadows, and seaside cliffs. The coast is packed with moody, romantic ceremony spots!
Some of my absolute faves are:
Summer and early fall (June through October) are the most popular times to visit the coast, with pleasant breezes, and warmer days. But even then, be prepared for rain and fog! Rain jackets and umbrellas are your best friends here. If you’re planning a summer elopement, keep in mind that traffic from Portland to the coast can get a little heavy, but trust me, the views are freaking worth it!
If you want to avoid the crowds and don’t mind the weather, plan for an off-season elopement (November – February). You’ll get to enjoy a quieter setting with misty mornings and romantic foggy views. The fog will add a touch of moodiness to your photos, and it’s going to be stunning! I’ve also found that May tends to be a great month weather wise on the coast. I’ve had some of my sunniest, warmest days in May!

Have you been dreaming of eloping in Bend, Oregon? Whether it’s the tall coniferous trees, lush meadows, fun downtown scene or the jaw-dropping volcanic mountains along the Cascade Mountain chain, Bend has it all. Located smack dab in Central Oregon, Bend is surrounded by amazing landscapes from the wide-open spaces of the high desert to the stunning mountain lakes.
I’ve called Bend home since 2008, and I can tell you it’s an outdoor lover’s paradise! With world-class climbing at Smith Rock just 45 minutes away, a gorgeous alpine lake setting at Sparks Lake, countless hiking and biking trails, the Deschutes River running through town, and the Mt. Bachelor ski resort nearby, this place has it all! The craft brew scene in Bend is pretty epic too, if you and your partner are beer lovers. Plus, it’s a great jumping-off point for exploring Central Oregon, from the high desert to Crater Lake National Park and the lush forests of the Cascades.
Bend is gorgeous all year round, but if you’re looking for sunny skies, trail access, and warmer weather, July to mid-October is your time! Just keep in mind that summer is a popular season, so it might get a little busy around town. If you and your partner want a more low-key, intimate vibe, consider the off-season. February and March are awesome if you’re dreaming of a skiing elopement at Mt. Bachelor or just want to play in the snow.
Wildfire season (Summertime) can be smoky. Eloping during a shoulder season, before July or after October, will also ensure you avoid peak wildfire season.

If you and your partner are looking for a truly epic spot for your PNW elopement, just 2 hours away from Seattle, Olympic National Park should be at the top of your list! This park has it all—from dramatic mountain ranges to lush temperate rainforests and wild, rugged coastlines. Whether you’re dreaming of saying your vows with mountain views at Hurricane Ridge, along the misty shores of Ruby or Rialto Beach, or by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Crescent, this park is full of jaw-dropping backdrops.
This park is ideal for couples who want a bit of everything—so if you’re having trouble deciding between mountains or ocean, why not do both? The park’s size and diversity mean you can find a spot that feels secluded and intimate, no matter what time of year you elope. While summer and early fall are the most popular times to visit, be prepared for some crowds at popular spots like Hurricane Ridge.
If you’re up for more of an adventure, consider eloping during the off-season! Winter brings snow-capped mountains and misty beaches for a moody, romantic vibe that’s perfect for your elopement photos!
If you and your partner are dreaming of a dramatic mountain elopement, Mt. Rainier National Park, about 2 hours away from Seattle, is an absolute must! As the tallest mountain in the Pacific Northwest, Mt. Rainier stands as an epic natural wonder, surrounded by lush forests, sparkling alpine lakes, and subalpine meadows. My favorite ceremony spots in the park are Sunrise Area, Nisqually, and Paradise. They offer those iconic Mt. Rainier views that will take your breath away!
The best time to elope here is late June through mid-October. Summer is your best shot for clear skies and those wildflower-filled meadows, though it can get a little busy with visitors. If you’re into vibrant fall colors, Chinook Pass and Tipsoo Lake are perfect for a cozy, less-crowded autumn elopement.
Winter on Mt. Rainier is harsh and snowy, with many park areas closed, but if you’re craving a winter adventure elopement, I recommend checking out Crystal Mountain and hitting the slopes together!
If you’re looking for more info on how to plan a Mt. Rainier elopement or more options for Mt. Rainier wedding locations, I’ve got you!
Nicknamed the “American Alps,” North Cascades National Park is hands down one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the Pacific Northwest! With over 300 glaciers, 93 named mountains, and two towering volcanoes, this place is an absolute dream for adventure elopement couples.
Some of my favorite elopement spots here are the Washington Pass Overlook, Diablo Lake, and Artist Point!
July through October is the best time to elope in the North Cascades! Summer into early Fall is the most popular time to visit the National Park, so expect crowds when visiting popular destinations such as waterfalls and overlooks.
If you’re into skiing, Mt. Baker is the perfect spot for winter elopements, with some of the best snowboarding and skiing in the state. Other than that, it would be quite challenging to plan a winter elopement in this National Park, because many trails and roads experience seasonal closures, sometimes as early as September.
If you didn’t already love North Cascades National Park, just know it’s one of the few free national parks in the U.S. and it is also dog-friendly!

Are you dreaming of an epic elopement with stunning views, cascading waterfalls, and endless adventure? Look no further than the Columbia River Gorge, less than an hour away from Portland! This magical place is perfect for free-spirited couples who crave adventure and want to keep their wedding intimate.
Some of my favorite locations in the area are the ones with waterfall backdrops at Latourell Falls or Wahclella Falls, or finding a spot along the coast of the Columbia River.
The Gorge is beautiful year-round. Spring brings wildflower blooms and vibrant greenery, making it a gorgeous time for your ceremony, while fall is all about those stunning autumn colors. If you’re a fan of cozy vibes and breathtaking foliage, fall is definitely your season! Winter in the Gorge can be icy, but it’s one of the best spots in PNW for winter elopement anyway!

If you’re dreaming of a wedding ceremony and celebration surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, a Crater Lake elopement might be for you! This iconic (yet somehow still underrated) natural wonder is perfect for free-spirited couples who crave adventure and epic views. Picture forests, waterfalls, and the deepest natural lake in North America. Plus, there’s mountain views, and wildflowers in the summer!
Like most places on the list, Crater Lake is a good choice all year round! July to mid-October are the ideal months to plan your elopement, as the park’s roads and facilities are fully open, and the weather is generally good. If you want to get married among the wildflowers, late July through August is a gorgeous time to visit. Just keep in mind that summer is peak tourism season, so it can get busy. For fewer crowds and a more intimate experience, September to mid-October is a fantastic choice!
If you’re dreaming of a winter elopement, Crater Lake is absolutely stunning when covered in snow. However, be prepared for limited access and potentially harsh weather conditions. Winter is perfect if you’re into cold-weather activities like snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, and the park is far less crowded during this time!
From skiing to hiking, Mt. Hood has everything you need for an adventure-filled elopement! Just under a two-hour drive from Portland, Mt. Hood is surrounded by a vast national forest offering some of the best recreational activities in the state. Whether you’re envisioning a cozy winter elopement with snow-covered peaks or a summer celebration full of wildflowers and hikes, Mt. Hood is the perfect spot for you!
Mt. Hood is an amazing elopement location year-round. Mt. Hood has some of the best resorts for an adventurous winter skiing elopement! For a summer elopement, the trails are unbeatable, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests.
