I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
Mary & Andrew chose Smith Rock for their engagement session, even though neither of them had actually been to the park yet. They recently moved to Bend after Mary finished up her degree in Arizona where they met. The park reminded them of Arizona, and they wanted a different scene than their wedding at Elk Lake this fall.
I met these cuties over a drink on a cold January evening at the The Barrel Thief and I could tell right away that I was going to love these two. They are such genuine, kind, beautiful people, exactly the free-spirited couple I love working with. A few months later, we met up on a warm April evening and drove out together, along with their dog Bolt, to Smith Rock State Park.
Mary & Andrew’s love story starts in an adorable way. She was attending grad school in Flagstaff, AZ and Andrew was in Flagstaff for the weekend with buddies to attend Beer Fest. Somehow, these two ended up at a local watering hole on country line dance night, even though neither one of them actually do any sort of country line dancing. They caught each others’ eyes from across the room and Andrew decided to walk over to Mary and chat. According to Mary, he reached out his hand and said, “I’m not sure how to do this, but I’m willing to try for you.” That was about 3.5 years ago and these two have been inseparable since.
A perfect date night for these two consists of a cell phone free evening in their living room fort, growlers full of beer, take out food, Bananagrams and a movie. And yes, they are well aware that they are almost 30 and still build and hang out in living room forts! Mary & Andrew love to go camping and hiking, they love road trips and they enjoy trying new beer together. That just might be why we get along so well!
They changed into their casual clothing, grabbed their fun camping chairs, and we headed down towards the Crooked River to soak in the gorgeous view!
Mary & Andrew are a great couple. I had so much fun getting to know more about them and meet their sweet pup. It’s no surprise that Bolt was included in their Smith Rock engagement session. After all, he did capture Andrew’s proposal for them with a GoPro mounted to his chest! Apparently he was an excellent cameraman too and I may have some competition on their wedding day!
I seriously can’t wait for their Elk Lake wedding in September. Fall is just about my favorite time of year and the high Cascades are beautiful then. It’s going to be so good!
