I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
Sarah and Tyler recently moved to Central Oregon from the Portland area and reached out to me for some engagement photos this past November. They were getting married in Portland in December and didn’t have their engagement photos done, but both their parents kept insisting on photos so they finally gave in. I’m so happy they did, as these two are seriously the cutest together! Since these two didn’t know much about the area, they asked for suggestions on where to do their photos. After chatting with them, we decided the property they were currently residing on was the perfect location! These two moved to Central Oregon for Tyler’s job, and didn’t really plan on living on a ranch, but fell in love with the location (not far from Tyler’s job in Prineville) and the tranquility of the ranch life. We thought what better way to remember this time in their lives, than to photograph it? It was the perfect place for a Powell Butte Ranch lifestyle engagement session! I seriously loved the connection these two had and how at ease they were together. Something about the country does that to you.
We started out their engagement session in the barn, with the horse they dubbed, “Mr. Ed.”
As Sarah & Tyler warmed up to the camera, we walked further out on the property. I took them out into the big green grassy field and asked Tyler that if he felt like giving Sarah a piggy back ride, and maybe gallop around, that would be a-okay with me. He totally took me up on that suggestion and between laughs and snorts, I think I got a few great images!
Next, we headed over across the road, with amazing views of the town’s namesake. The gorgeous late fall light was peeking through the juniper trees that dotted the landscape, making for some incredible photo opportunities. A Powell Butte ranch lifestyle engagement session really isn’t complete without showing all the junipers that are quintessential Central Oregon!
As we headed back to their home for an outfit change, I couldn’t help but stop them because the light shining on the barn was so beautiful! “Mr. Ed” was hanging out in the background and it was just the perfect view to reflect their Powell Butte ranch lifestyle engagement session.
After Sarah & Tyler changed, we headed back out on the property for some more photographs. The last remnants of fall were evident around their home, with leaves covering the grass around the homestead. I had them grab a blanket as the evening was quickly approaching and the temperatures were dropping quickly!
Finally, the light was gone and we headed back towards the barn. Sarah & Tyler wanted to give me some of the dozens of chicken eggs they had and I couldn’t say no! I love farm fresh eggs and my girls were resisting the change of the season, so I was happy to take some off their hands. Of course, as they were walking ahead of me, I couldn’t help but get a few more photos of them walking towards the barn as the golden hour gave way to the blue hour. I think this kinda sums up ranch life.
Seriously, I absolutely loved this Powell Butte ranch lifestyle engagement session! I always encourage my couples to do something unique to them. These two certainly hit the mark! Sarah & Tyler, by now you two are blissfully married and I am so happy you gave me a little glimpse into your lives. I wish you nothing but the best!
