I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
Smith Rock State Park is an iconic location in Central Oregon, not only for rock climbers, but hikers and anyone else that loves the outdoors. This location holds a special meaning to Faith & James and they really wanted their engagement photos at Smith Rock State Park. Faith had a super busy schedule with graduate school over in the Portland area, and our initial date for their engagement session in August turned out to be one of the worst days for wildfire smoke in the region. So, we decided to postpone because they really didn’t want to hike around in the sweltering heat, breathing in all that awful smoke. The next date they had available was the very end of October, and we crossed our fingers for the best. Well, Mother Nature delivered! It was an absolutely glorious warm fall day and their engagement photos at Smith Rock State Park turned out beautifully!
They brought their sweet pup along to the session (yay for dogs at your engagement sessions people, I love it), and we had so much fun getting to know more about each other. I learned their pup used a wheelchair at times to get around, due to a congenital issue with his back. Faith’s parents came along to help him get out of his wheelchair for photos (he gets around pretty darn good without it, just tires easily) and to sit with him while we walked down into the canyon for some of their portraits.
Engagement sessions are such a great way to get to know my clients, and a great way for them to get to know me and how I work! It helps to loosen you up before your wedding day, get the camera shyness out of the way, and create some beautiful images! Plus, the lighting can be timed well, so we can photograph during the golden hour, the best time of day for light. And, you can pick a location that’s special to you, different than your wedding venue, and you have no rush worrying about getting back to your guests on your wedding day. For these reasons, I highly recommend choosing to have one. I think these engagement photos from Smith Rock State Park truly show Faith & James’ love for each other pretty darn well! Here’s another beautiful Smith Rock engagement session for you to peruse, if you are interested in more from this location.
I’ll leave you with this beautiful moonrise silhouette of these two from their engagement session!

THAT SUN! Those rocks! That couple! Beautiful and stunning. You rocked it!
What a super pretty spot–these are gorgeous! Almost feels like the desert–Arizona or something 🙂
These photographs at Smith Rock State Park are gorgeous! Beautiful light and so nice that they were able to have some help including their pup, too!
