I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
As promised, this is the final installment in the series of blog posts dedicated to the shootout event from Colorado. I have to say, this Colorado Rocky Mountain Wedding styled shoot may have just topped my list of epic shoots. It’s hard to beat a herd of elk wandering through their namesake space, Elk Meadow Open Space! But more on that in a minute.
This sweet couple was one of two engagement session couples that participated in the model call. We started out their session with a casual look, hanging out in the tall grass of the big, open meadow. They nuzzled and snuggled in together as myself and a few other photographers posed and worked with them. The sun was low on the horizon and the heavy clouds that threatened to rain out the shoot began to clear. As I stood the couple up out of the grass I noticed a herd of elk making their way into the meadow directly behind us! Seriously, my heart skipped a beat and I was in total awe of this moment. Growing up in Colorado, I remember seeing elk all over. Now that I’m in Oregon, I don’t see them as much, so it really made my day. The elk were obviously used to humans and didn’t seem to mind that we were photographing so close to them.
As this was the last couple of the day, they asked if she could take a quick moment to change into her wedding gown she brought. The sun was getting ready to set and the elk were happily grazing in the meadow, so I mean, how could we say no to that? She changed into her beautiful white gown and we headed back out to the meadow to capture the last of the evening light. It was truly a magical experience to photograph this styled wedding shoot in an epic Rocky Mountain location, with a herd of elk in the background. Yes, this is the stuff my dreams are made of and Colorado sure knows how to deliver!
It really doesn’t get better than this! Standing in a gorgeous meadow with elk grazing behind you truly makes for some special memories, for both the couple and for me. Colorado is beautiful and filled with so many great places to have your outdoor mountain wedding!
Be sure to check out the other three blogs from this styled shoot series! A Colorado free-spirited wedding, A Colorado Rocky Mountain engagement session, and an Evergreen, CO Photographer Shootout. They were all such great couples to work with and I am grateful for their time. I had such an amazing time at this shootout event, meeting fellow photographers and honing in on my craft. Also, it goes without saying, but thanks to the Denver Photo Betties for making this shootout happen!
