I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
When you picture your dream elopement, maybe it’s not beaches or mountain meadows—it’s fresh snow under your skis, crisp mountain air in your lungs, and your favorite person right there beside you. If that sounds like your happy place, then a ski elopement at Mt. Bachelor in Bend, Oregon might be exactly what you’ve been searching for!
Andrea & Greg tied the knot on the slopes at Mt. Bachelor, and it was every bit the adventurous, joyful celebration you’d imagine. It really showed just how freaking fun and intentional a winter elopement in Oregon can be.
Andrea & Greg are avid skiers who wanted something intimate and adventurous alongside their larger wedding plans. On a gorgeous bluebird day in the Cascades, they gathered with their closest people at Mt. Bachelor.
The original plan was to say vows at the very top of the Summit Lift, with 360° views of the surrounding peaks. But when we got up there, the wind was absolutely howling and ice made it less than ideal.
So we pivoted! Flexibility is key on mountain days. We snapped a few group photos up top and then headed down to a tucked-away spot in the trees, with Broken Top Mountain serving as their ceremony backdrop.
It was quiet, sheltered, and honestly even more magical. With their friend officiating, Andrea in her white tutu + veil over ski pants, and Greg grinning ear to ear, they promised forever with champagne, hugs, and a snowball tunnel send-off.
After the vows, we hopped on the Pine Martin lift for some celebratory laps. Andrea & Greg danced their way down The Grotto and along the Red Chair lift line, and yes, I skied with my gear to keep up! Watching them carve turns together in sync was epic.
At the bottom, their pup joined the fun for some family photos. A perfect ending to a winter elopement full of laughter and adventure.

Just 30 minutes from Bend, Mt. Bachelor is the perfect place for a snowy winter elopement or mountain-top summer adventure. While it is a great option for a skiing or snowboarding elopement, you get stunning wildflower meadows and views for days during summertime as well! But this place really brings one of the longest ski seasons in the PNW!
You can ride the ski lift up, elope with panoramic views of the Cascades, and celebrate in downtown Bend afterward. In Bend, you’ll find cozy cabins, breweries, and lots of spots for celebration after the slopes.
It’s a laid-back but epic option for couples who love snow or just want killer scenery without a long hike. Lift access makes it easy to reach high-elevation ceremony or photo spots!
If you’re dreaming of adventuring and hitting the slopes for your elopement, here’s what you’ll need to think about when planning your ski elopement at Mt. Bachelor (or anywhere in Oregon’s mountains).
Mt. Bachelor’s ski season usually runs from late November through May (weather permitting) but the sweet spot for snow is December through March. That’s when you’ll find the most reliable powder and wintry vibes. If you love bluebird skies, mid-to-late March often delivers with sunny days and soft snow.
Layers are your best friend! Of course, you’ll need to have your ski gear, thermals, and jackets, but you can definitely add a more wedding-y vibe. Andrea rocked a white tutu and veil over her ski gear, and it was the perfect mix of playful + bridal. You might also love a faux fur shrug or cape to throw on for photos.
You’ll need a valid lift ticket or season pass to ride the lifts at Mt. Bachelor. The same goes for any guests or officiant coming with you. If you’re inviting loved ones, plan ahead! You can buy passes online to save money and make sure everyone’s set for the big day. And if you want to keep it super simple, you can have your ceremony at the base area or a short hike-in spot so your guests don’t need to ski.
One thing to know about mountain elopements and overall adventuring outdoors—Mother Nature is unpredictable. The Summit Lift at Mt. Bachelor often closes due to wind, and storms can roll in fast. That’s why I always recommend a Plan B ceremony location lower on the mountain. You’ll be protected by trees, but still have great views. Andrea & Greg did exactly this and it was just as epic if not more.
If you’re bringing friends or family, think about their comfort level on the mountain. Some guests may not ski or snowboard at all, and that’s totally fine! Mt. Bachelor has great lodge areas with fireplaces, food, and drinks, so non-skiers can hang out while you head up the lifts for photos. Or, choose a ceremony location that doesn’t require advanced skiing skills so everyone can be part of it.
Photographing Andrea & Greg’s day was such an honor and, honestly, an absolute blast! As someone who skis Mt. Bachelor several days a week, I know the mountain well and can help you plan a day that balances adventure with ease.
