I’m a wedding & elopement photographer for laid back couples that value the idea of being married more than just having a party. They want photos that show their true selves and represent their love of nature, and prefer to be more natural than overly posed.
Geneva and Jacob’s Metolius River Campground wedding was the perfect mix of intentional tradition, outdoor adventure, and fun festival vibes for their celebration. They chose my 8-hour wedding package (plus an engagement session, which I always recommend for intimate weddings since portrait time can fly by on the big day).
They tied the knot at Lower Bridge Campground along the Metolius River, which is a spot deeply special for Geneva. The Metolius is not just breathtaking with its crystal-clear waters and pine-lined banks, but it’s a place that holds cultural significance for her as a Native American woman.
When they started planning, Geneva and Jacob knew they wanted to get married along the river they love so much. They toured a few venues, but nothing felt right until they considered getting married at a campground. The Lower Bridge site was perfect with the rustic, wild vibes, and it was completely theirs for the weekend once they reserved every single campsite.
Planning a campground wedding takes more logistics than a typical venue. You need to get permits from the US Forest Service, get generators for power, haul in some water, and get a crew to help with setup. Geneva and Jacob wisely brought in a planner to handle the details so they could focus on celebrating.
Their ceremony was beautiful and deeply personal, weaving together Geneva’s Native American and Japanese roots with Jacob’s Jewish heritage. They stood beneath a chuppah adorned with a colorful Pendleton blanket, surrounded by family, friends, and the sound of the river flowing behind them. From the moment Geneva walked down the aisle in her custom gown (handmade by her mom!) and moccasins she made herself, it was clear every detail was full of love and meaning.
Geneva and Jacob’s Metolius River Campground wedding was brimming with handmade touches — from the mugs crafted by family members as wedding favors, to the florals grown and dried by a friend. Guests were treated to salmon cooked the traditional way over an open flame, honoring Geneva’s heritage and connecting everyone to the land.
Their pup also was a big part of their wedding day. Including pets always adds extra joy and some of my favorite photos from the day include all three of them together by the river. However, including your dog in your wedding day comes with extra planning and considerations. But don’t worry, that’s why I created my guide on How to Plan a Dog-Friendly Wedding Elopement!
For their wedding reception at the campground, Geneva and Jacob embraced a full-on festival vibe with live music, a glitter station and even an outfit change! Geneva swapped her gown for a sparkly two-piece party outfit and a faux fur coat, while Jacob rocked bold prints and vintage-inspired attire. Guests donned their best festival gear, the dance floor lit up under string lights and a disco ball, and the night was so much fun!
“Erica you were so fun to work with and truly captured the essence of us and our community and the land so well.”
As a PNW wedding photographer, I live for celebrations that are intentional, adventurous, and totally unique to the couple, just like Geneva and Jacob’s Metolius River Campground wedding.
